Yesterday, I was extremely proud to see my bipartisan bill, the Homicide Victims’ Families’ Rights Act, approved and advanced by the House Judiciary Committee. The bill would require that federal law enforcement must review a case — and the methods of its investigation — at the request of a victim’s loved one, 3 years after the case has gone cold.

As a former prosecutor, helping victims’ families is truly important to me. I’ve seen what happens when there’s no closure. These family members deserve closure. This bill is one small step towards finally bringing justice for the folks asking questions about what happened to their loved ones.

But there’s still more work to be done . I am deeply invested in continuing to create new avenues for law enforcement to be helpful to the public. That’s why I’m looking to collect signatures to show the House that Americans are also invested in these efforts.
