Hi John,

Right now is an exciting, emergent moment for Breast Cancer Action.

This year, after honoring our 30th Anniversary in 2020, we began navigating our first full year as a virtual organization, made our way through another pandemic year, leaned into our national work, launched new online platforms, and created new events.

The transition into 2022 brims with potential for growth and even deeper alignment with our core values on the path to progress and systemic change.

I hope you'll join us during this formative time by making your year-end donation today.

In 2021:

  • We embarked on a strategic planning process to envision the next five years. This process includes creating a blueprint for how we will show up in the movement and the world, prioritizing centering those with the furthest relationships to power, and operationalizing these values internally and externally.
  • We helped make huge progress on anti-fossil fuel work in California. Through our partnerships within the Last Chance Alliance, we demanded concrete action from Governor Newsom toward ending fracking and other dangerous drilling practices. Last month, CalGEM, the department that oversees oil operations in California, issued a draft rule banning new permits for oil and gas wells within 3,200 feet of the areas where we live, work, and play. Big news, but our work continues!
  • We launched our 2021 Think Before You Pink® campaign, Stop Banking on Breast Cancer, which called out Susan G. Komen® and demanded that they phase out their Pink Ribbon Banking Program, created in partnership with Bank of America.
  • We continued our ongoing rapid response work. We mobilized our members to oppose Dr. Janet Woodcock's nomination as head of the Food and Drug Administration; we condemned white supremacy and stood in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in a letter published in March, and we delivered a letter to North Carolina Senator Tom Tillis stating our concerns about Congress' plan to, yet again, allow companies to patent human genes. This plan would dismantle our historic Supreme Court win against Myriad Genetics in 2013.

BCAction has always approached breast cancer as a public health crisis and a social justice issue. In 2021, we took bold, purposeful steps toward building on our legacy of: uplifting issues of access to equitable care and information, calling out the hypocrisy of pink ribbon marketing culture, and addressing the root causes of breast cancer.

2022 will be no different, but we need your help to get there!

Please join us by making your year-end donation today.

In solidarity,

Krystal Redman (KR) (They/She)
Executive Director
