Dear PA members, I am writing to provide an update about the People's Alliance!

Dear PA Members,

It was so good to see you all Tuesday evening. We got a lot of business done, so I appreciate you all sticking it out with us.

For those not present, we passed a budget for 2022, finalized our harassment policy, and made a few bylaw amendments. An updated version of the bylaws will be available on our website in a few days.

As you all know, candidate filing in Durham is ongoing (well, sort of), and I do want to provide an update on two transitions that are occurring internally as a result of that process. PA Board Policy dictates that candidates for office must take a leave of absence from their work during an election.

Millicent Rogers has filed for School Board Consolidated District B and is taking a leave of absence from her role as co-president.

Aminah Thompson has filed for Clerk of Superior Court and is stepping back from her role as Race Equity Team Lead.

We appreciate all the time, energy, and care both of them have shown this organization over the years.

Finally, I do want to remind everyone that the People’s Alliance is a 501c4 organization, focused on policy advocacy. The People’s Alliance PAC, which makes endorsements for elections, has an entirely separate leadership team. And all endorsement decisions are ultimately decided by a vote of the members present at an endorsement meeting. Your membership to one organization is a membership to both.

On the 501c4 side, we have a lot of exciting advocacy work continuing. In 2022, we will be launching a leadership academy to help train a new generation of Durham progressive policy champions.

Our Housing and Transit Action Team meets December 16th at 6 p.m. to strategize around the eviction crisis. Register here.

And our Economic Justice Action Team meets TONIGHT. Email [email protected] for a Zoom link.

Stay tuned for an announcement about our Education Action Team's meeting.

All of our Action Team meetings are open to you, and we would love to find ways to get you plugged into our work. Please reach out to me or any member of the Board with any questions or to find ways to get involved.

Onward together!

Adam Beyer

Co-President

*Any typos are the fault of my kitten. Thanks for bearing with both of us.*
