John,

We’re excited to announce that the next Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action will once again take place on April 1, 2022

Why April Fool’s Day again?

Because we’re not fooled by the tobacco industry’s latest tricks.

Big Tobacco companies Altria and Philip Morris International have launched major PR campaigns claiming they’re the good guys. They say they’re “Moving Beyond Smoking” and “delivering a smoke-free future” – but we’ve heard it all before, and we know it’s just smoke and mirrors. They continue to sell billions of cigarettes in the United States and around the world, market addictive and deadly tobacco products to kids, and aggressively fight regulations that would actually reduce smoking.

Exhibit A: Deceptive advertisement from Philip Morris, 2021

It's now more important than ever that we, along with our partners, call out Big Tobacco and expose their false narrative. We need to mobilize youth across the country to fight back – to show these companies that we won’t be fooled any longer, and to make sure policymakers don’t believe their lies.

Together we can combat their claims of being “responsible” and “reformed,” and expose all their foolery.

Details will come soon, but here’s what to expect:

  • A robust digital toolkit for hosting your own event (in-person or digital) and maximizing its impact.

  • An interactive, digital effort that brings it all together, hosted by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Event registration will open on our website in January.

Save the date, and start spreading the word!

More soon,

Gustavo Torrez
Director of Youth Advocacy
