Families who have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic have told us that going back to "normal" on the other side of this crisis is not going to be enough. When the children tell us where it "hurts," it's clear that this crisis only deepened the systemic inequalities and barriers that prevent them from thriving, as Dr. Wilson describes in his message below.

Please join us now in this fight to ensure that the "better" we're all working towards is truly better for Black, Latinx, and Indigenous families, as well as families living in poverty and others historically pushed to the margins.

Thank you for being part of this work.

Most sincerely,

Crystal Rucker

Child Defender,

Where does it hurt? It's an age-old question that every parent, grandparent, and guardian has asked a child they love when something is wrong.

As America's children have suffered through this year of loss, trauma, and grief, the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) has listened and sought to understand how families are hurting so we can better meet and advocate for their needs.

We heard from a parent who, despite working a full-time healthcare job in the middle of a pandemic, cannot make ends meet. She told us that just a little extra cash every month would go a long way toward helping her comfortably feed her son.

We heard a 17-year-old activist emphasize the importance of giving Black and brown teenagers the space to be vulnerable, feel their authentic emotions, and find hope.
During our annual CDF Freedom Schools® National Day of Social Action, we heard a group of elementary-aged children saying simply: "Kids have the right to be somebody in life."

2022 is almost upon us. Please support our work in the new year with a generous donation of $50, $75, $100, or whatever feels right for you.

In 2022, we'll build our capacity to organize and train communities to pursue the change they've told us they want to see. We are also revitalizing our seminal student leadership network 30 years after its original founding. And we'll continue leading coalition work to help children and families across the country.

We can't do this work without you. If you believe, as we do, that no family should struggle to survive in the wealthiest country on Earth, then please donate today.

Rev. Dr. Starsky Wilson
President and CEO and fellow supporter
