At 8:29 a.m. on August 14, 2021, a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the southern region of Haiti. In a matter of minutes, homes are destroyed, local health infrastructure breaks down, and hundreds of thousands of lives are changed forever.
In the minutes that follow, local Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) medical staff mobilize to respond where the needs are greatest. Dr. Xavier Kernizan, a surgeon working at MSF's Tabarre hospital in Port-au-Prince, tells the story of his team’s journey to provide care in Jérémie:
In more than 70 countries around the world, MSF staff like Xavier and his team provide urgent medical humanitarian aid where it’s needed most. They know that when it comes to delivering emergency care, minutes matter.
This email was sent from the U.S. section of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care.
