The right to an abortion is in jeopardy right now. In Texas lawmakers passed legislation in September effectively making abortion illegal. And the Trump-stacked Supreme Court may soon overturn Roe v. Wade, which has been the law of the land for 50 years.
These assaults on reproductive rights will continue until we defeat the politicians pushing them, and pass federal legislation protecting abortion rights. The right to an abortion has been protected under law for nearly 50 years thanks to the decision in Roe v. Wade. But because Trump and Mitch McConnell were able to stack the Supreme Court, blatantly illegal laws like the ones in Texas haven’t been struck down.
This is an all-hands-on-deck moment for our democracy and for reproductive rights. If these lawmakers get their way, the right to an abortion will soon be eliminated in Texas and nationwide. Now more than ever, we need to reach every voter and mobilize them to defeat these corrupt politicians. That work doesn’t start next year—it starts right now.
