Dear Friend, I hope that you and your loved ones have had a safe and wonderful year, creating warm memories and enjoying life to the fullest! As we enter this holiday season, we are rounding out an incredible year of victories for Enough is Enough (EIE) that has enabled us to positively impact millions of children's lives against the invasive dark forces in the digital world. In my recent TED Talk, I described the pandemic of sexual exploitation and how to strategically end it, declaring: “No child is immune from online sexual exploitation.” Vulnerable children need us to be their voice, their protectors and their warriors! I also shared our vision of prioritizing child online safety: “Imagine what a safer Internet could look like if we all do our part.” We are making great progress; however, we are fighting multi-billion-dollar criminal child porn, sex trafficking and illegal pornography enterprises. In other words, we are trying to put out a forest fire with a squirt gun. We must increase EIE’s funding base to win this war, and I need your help. EIE’s has the goal of raising an additional 1.5 million in new funding by 2023 to help lay a solid foundation for EIE’s long-term growth, capacity and stability. This amount will help us implement more aggressive strategies to hold Big Tech, Big Criminals and Big Government accountable so that the Internet can indeed be a safer place for both children and families. Our strategic plan calls for capacity building in which we seek to raise the initial private investment of $250,000.00 by this December 31st. Will you support our work with a generous year-end gift? With your help, we can make the vision of a safer Internet a reality. Below are just a few of the victories and near-term goals I’d love to share with you: Advocating for Strong Public Policy and the Rule of Law EIE’s Children’s Internet Safety Pledges call on the President, Governors and State Attorneys General to aggressively enforce existing laws, and fully fund efforts to prevent the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet. These very goals were reflected in a recent USA Today investigative report into the explosion of online child sex abuse material. Your support is crucial in our efforts to shine a glaring light on the multi-billion-dollar sex trafficking, child exploitation and illegal pornography industries and strategically dismantle them, one victory at a time! We achieved a HUGE historic first, when the bi-partisan Congress included the following EIE-submitted language in both its FY21 and FY22 Appropriations Bills, directing DOJ to: “…investigate and prosecute major producers and distributors of hardcore adult pornography that meets the Supreme Court test for obscenity. Such enforcement is necessary to protect the welfare of families and children…” Why is this critical? This content fuels child sexual exploitation, child pornography and trafficking. For nearly two decades, criminal pornography enterprises have operated with impunity, flooding the Internet with toxic content depicting themes of teen rape, incest, torture and strangulation. 58% of kids who consume this illegal content are under the age of 14! We must protect childhood innocence. In 2022, we plan to mount a major campaign pushing for Congressional hearings to hold DOJ accountable to prosecute unscrupulous pornography titans, which is the goal of our “Shut Down Pornhub” campaign, the ONLY petition calling on DOJ to enforce the federal child pornography, trafficking AND obscenity laws! Recent victories already resulted in major companies cutting ties with Pornhub, including Roku, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, PayPal, Comcast, Xfinity, and Heinz. Exposing Big Tech's Failure to Place Children's Safety Over Profits Predators prey where kids play. Sadly, research reveals that kids age 8-14 are regularly talking to strangers on social media & gaming platforms, putting them at grave risk for sexual exploitation and abuse. Yet, last spring, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to develop “Instagram for kids”! In response, EIE launched the “Demand Facebook Drop Plans for Instagram for Kids Under 13” petition campaign, joining 44 U.S. Attorneys General, all calling on the social media giant to ban its irresponsible plan. IT WORKED, and resulted in multiple Senate hearings and Facebook’s decision to put Instagram for Kids on “Pause”…. for now. Will you help us keep the momentum going as we partner with Congress to strategically regulate Big Tech giants that hide behind CDA #230, claiming immunity while profiting from child sexual exploitation and childhood vulnerabilities? I spoke with Senator Lindsey Graham about this very issue last week. In my Ted Talk, I echoed EIE’s clarion call for Big Tech to “develop safer by design technologies, right out of the box, with child safety default features turned on rather than off, on all devices and online platforms...” We are also calling for age verification and stronger parental controls, in addition to privacy protections to extend to teens age 13-17 years old. Our ability to persist in all of our work depends on your generous support. Hence, my appeal and my Board’s to you: Will you join us and invest more than you ever thought possible between now and December 31st? We have an unprecedented window through December 31,2021, via The Cares Act of 2021. Taxpayers who itemize deductions can make cash gifts to qualified charities like EIE, which may qualify for a charitable income tax deduction equal to 100% of their Adjusted Gross Income.
