Dear Friend of OpenSecrets,

I recently heard about an awesome activity led by a teacher of one of my researcher’s kids. This high school educator led a scavenger hunt using OpenSecrets.org as a learning tool to teach their students about campaign finance. What a creative way to use our site!

When you think about the repercussions of massive sums of money flooding our political system, do you wonder how our kids and future generations will be affected?

If you’re like us at OpenSecrets, then you believe that it’s critical young people understand the state of our republic, and the influence of money that flows through it. While we are fighting for government transparency now, those who come after will need to know how to navigate the “open secret” of political influence (follow the money!).

You can help OpenSecrets continue to serve educators and students by making a donation to our work. We provide bulk data used by teachers to educate students, as well as learning materials, like our
Money-in-Politics Timeline ([link removed]) , which help students understand the long history of U.S. political fundraising. We even operated an OpenSecrets University learning tool during lockdown to support remote educators.

I will support your academic users! ([link removed])
You are helping our research team support thousands of academics with your donation — from students completing class projects to professors working on academic research at prestigious universities. Thanks to you, we can support over 5,500 researchers across 750 academic organizations every year who use our data to power groundbreaking research.

Your gift today will help our academic community grow stronger, and give us the means to help even more students learn about money-in-politics and why transparency is a pillar of democracy.

With gratitude,

Sheila Krumholz
Executive Director
