Dear John,
This year, our staff has grown to 13. It’s the biggest team we’ve had to date, full of talented people from all over the country. As another tough year winds down, we asked the team: Why do you do this work?
[[link removed]] I do this work because while the system may not save us, I know that through collective power we can force it to reckon with the pent-up needs of our communities on the way to full liberation. - Corinne, Policy & Legislative Strategist

I do this work because I believe in the power of community. - Dan, Director of Finance
[[link removed]] I live in a state where both my partner and I are on our children’s birth certificates. I work for equality for all queer families to have that right. - Diana, Director of Leadership Programs
[[link removed]] I believe that when we join together we are powerful enough to build the world we want to see for our people. I want to support building that power, caring for our people, and bringing more queer joy into the world. - Fran, Executive Director
[[link removed]] I'm constantly inspired by not just the work but the love that our state leaders and grassroots advocates put in year in and year out to make the places they call home places where everyone can live authentically and thrive. - Ian, Deputy Director

I want to make this country better for trans people and I believe we can do that by building power in the states. - Mel, Director of Grants & Administration
[[link removed]] I imagine a world where we take the lessons learned from our Stonewall generation and build a movement focused on the liberation of every single queer person in America led by LGBTQ+ communities we’ve historically left behind in our shared fight. I imagine a world free from new HIV transmissions and stigma; doing this work brings my imagination closer to our reality. - Mike, Policy Engagement Strategist

I do this work because I believe LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit people deserve to live with dignity, respect, and personal sovereignty. - Skye, Development Coordinator
[[link removed]] I do this work because I believe in both the immediate and long-term power of collective action; that community and peer-led learning, skill sharing and development, and resourcing support is a valuable contribution in our journey towards liberation. - Vashti, Advocacy & Civic Engagement Strategist

To build a movement for queer and trans liberation and joy. - Vivian, Director of Advocacy & Civic Engagement
It’s easy to get discouraged when the work is hard. Our reasons keep us going.
