Dear Friends,
On December 1, the U.S. Supreme Court heard the most consequential abortion rights case in generations. The threat is real: Mississippi unabashedly asked the Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. That means the future of abortion access hangs in the balance.
The majority (74%) of adults believe abortion care should remain legal, regardless of political affiliation or race/ethnicity. Despite this, half of U.S. states are poised to ban abortion if Roe is overturned. The harm and chaos experienced by folks in Mississippi and nearby states like Texas will spread across the South and Midwest.
The impacts of abortion bans fall hardest on people of color, people with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, immigrants, and people having difficulty making ends meet. This mean that abortion care, an essential part of reproductive health services, is too often out of reach for many.
The Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) would block abortion bans and ensure everyone has access to the abortion care they deserve. The House passed WHPA on September 24, 2020—and now we need the Senate to act. Please contact your Senators today—even if you’ve already done so before—and demand a vote to pass WHPA. We need it more than ever!
