Recent studies show that 44% of farmers and agricultural workers (385 million people) around the world are poisoned every year. Pesticides are everywhere - they are in our food as residues and sprayed on our streets, parks and playgrounds. They have been linked to a range of diseases including Parkinson’s, depression and anxiety, and cancer.
But pesticides also play a pivotal – but often hidden – role in the defining environmental problems of our age. They prop up the unsustainable model of industrial agriculture that is driving biodiversity loss and is one of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases.
It doesn’t have to be this way: viable and effective alternatives exist. Through our projects and research we have shown it is possible to feed the world AND protect the planet. Polling has shown that the UK population want to see less reliance on pesticides, but we need your help to get this message across to decision-makers and counter the propaganda and misinformation of the powerful pesticide industry.
We are a small team of scientists and campaigners, and the only UK charity focused solely on tackling the problems caused by pesticides. Through our work we shine a light on the harms caused by pesticides and find effective solutions that work for farmers and for nature.
