Dear Friend,
It's the first few days of December, and retailers are already unable to
guarantee Christmas delivery for purchases—thanks to Postmaster General
Louis DeJoy.^1
But it's not just gifts that are delayed. Prescription medications aren't
arriving in time, and neither are Social Security checks and other
critical needs.^2
DeJoy's ten-year plan to destroy the post office is in full swing, and the
only way to stop it is to fire him and replace him with a Postmaster
General who will shore up the USPS. We are on the verge of seeing that
happen, but first, the Senate must confirm President Joe Biden’s nominees
to the USPS governance board.

DeJoy has orchestrated one of the biggest slowdowns in mail delivery we’ve
ever seen. Right now, only 60% of the mail arrives on time, down from 92%
before DeJoy was installed.^3
And DeJoy is charging us more for worse service! In October, First Class
mail costs increased by 6.8%, and packages by 8.8%, outpacing inflation
and hurting people who depend on the mail.^4 It’s all part of his effort
to dismantle the USPS and privatize delivery.
The mail is a critical part of our democracy. It’s one of the last
nonbiased forms of dissemination of information, and millions of people
count on vote-by-mail programs to make their voices heard. DeJoy cannot be
allowed to destroy the post office.
The USPS Board of Governors is in charge of DeJoy’s employment, and until
now, the majority of the board was keeping DeJoy in place. But President
Biden has nominated two new members, and once they are confirmed by the
Senate, the Board of Governors will finally have the majority it needs to
fire DeJoy. We need to put pressure on the Senate to move those
confirmations forward immediately.
Demand Progress has mobilized people to send more than 100,000 messages to
Congress this year to fire DeJoy and save the U.S. Postal Service, and
it’s had a clear impact. We’re so close to victory.

ensure that key executive branch posts are held by progressive leaders?
Thanks for standing with us.
