Following Councillor O’Grady’s resignation and the following by-election, you elected Nayab Patel to join Councillor Williams and Councillor Matsiko as Sherwood Councillors.
"Hi, I am Nayab Patel your newly elected councillor. I am a teacher and I look forward to meeting you in the near future."
We thank Councillor O’Grady for her hard work and support to Sherwood and give a warm welcome to Councillor Dr. Patel.

Councillors Matsiko and Patel switched on the Sherwood festive lights this year, sadly without an audience due to Covid 19.
We hope you enjoy the tree and the lights along Mansfield Road whilst you are doing your Christmas shopping. We are also celebrating the festivities by holding a design bonanza!
We would like you to draw, colour or paint a Christmas card design relating to the Twelve days of Christmas song.
Further details on how to enter are below:

Cllr Patel and Cllr Matsiko took part in the Mitzvah Day of Social Action, organised by Nottingham Liberal Synagogue in collaboration with Sherwood Methodist Church, to litter pick along Mansfield Road.
Thank you to everyone who got involved!
If you'd like to get your very own litter pick and stylish purple bin bags, join Nottingham City Council's Clean Champions scheme.

Sherwood Councillors were delighted to award a grant to enable Nottingham Music Service to run day camps.
Children from Carrington, Haydn and Seely Schools learnt how to play music by ear, read music and learn ensemble skills that helped them play as part of a whole orchestra or ‘monster band’ at the end of the camp.
The camp took place in the beautiful rehearsal halls and grounds of the University of Nottingham’s Music Department. One school staff member said: ‘Our children all left feeling very motivated and with lots of musical skills and understanding’.

Sherwood Councillors were also pleased to join forces with the Arts Council and fund a performance of new theatre show by Jellyfish Theatre Company called the Wagon of Dreams.
After spending so long in lockdown it was great to get back into Peggy’s Park and watch an outdoor show that was enjoyed by young and old alike! Thankfully, the thunder and lightning held off until later in the day and did not stop the fun. We cannot wait to see what Jellyfish come up with next year!

Following requests from local residents, the first meeting on biodiversity in Sherwood took place.
We are looking at reducing the use of chemicals to control wildflowers along streets and asked residents for their ideas and thoughts - we cannot do this without you.
We would like to trial this chemical-free approach on one or two streets and welcome residents support in keeping the streets tidy and looking loved. If this sounds like something your street would like to do, or you have any other thoughts on this, please contact us. Our contact details are at the bottom of this newsletter.

With increases in bills and the cost of living as well as taxes going up and continuing issues around the pandemic, this Christmas will be a tough one for many.
Taking out payday or doorstep loans is a bad idea - they might seem like an easy way to get cash quickly, but you'll end up paying an arm and a leg due to sky-high interest rates.
The cheapest places to borrow money will always be a bank, building society or Notts and Lincs Credit Union - who may be able to help where others can't if you have a poor credit history.

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:
-
Look for the CE or UKCA mark: These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
-
Button-batteries can kill: Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
-
Check age restrictions: Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason

Warning – criminals are using the NHS Covid Pass and pretending to be the NHS as a way to target the public by convincing them to hand over money, financial details and personal information.

On scams generally - remember, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. These include festive getaways at very low prices and ‘easy’ ways to make money, like cryptocurrency and investments. Take a moment to check Citizens Advice’s Online Scams Helper to protect yourself.
