Dear John,
Did you know that 8 children and teens are unintentionally injured or killed due to family fire? Family fire is a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun in the home that results in death or injury. The facts are startling — 4.6 million children live in homes with access to an unlocked or unsupervised gun. Fifty-one percent of all suicide fatalities are by firearms, and 60 percent of all gun deaths are by suicide.
This week, we were proud to help
introduce the Prevent Family Fire Act of 2019.
This lifesaving legislation will help reduce gun violence — including suicide and unintentional shootings — by providing a modest tax credit for retailers to incentivize the sale of safe storage devices for firearms. Learn more.
Tuesday is Election Day in Virginia! 🗳️
On Tuesday, Virginians head to the polls. And the entire nation is watching. With all 140 seats on the Virginia General Assembly up for grabs, now’s the chance to elect a gun violence prevention majority. A victory in the Commonwealth will let us know things are looking good for 2020. But here's the thing: We only have THREE DAYS left until Election Day. Brady has been hard at work in Virginia, from endorsing more than 30 gun safety champions to canvassing in NRA-backed districts, and now we need you to help us finish the job.
Will you sign up to help us get out the vote in Virginia?

We Denounce President Trump’s Comments Comparing Chicago to Afghanistan ❌
Nope, nope, nope. During Trump’s first visit to Chicago as President, he said that “Afghanistan is a safe place by comparison” to Chicago. Yet the truth is that violent crime in Chicago has been on the decline since 2016. And let’s be clear, if Trump truly cared about keeping Chicagoans safe, he would provide the city with the resources it needs to curb gun violence. Resources like trace data — information that is critical in tracing the flow of crime guns into the city of Chicago. His latest comments confirm what we already know — that we need a President who will support evidence-based solutions, not mock our communities and fuel myths about violence. Our chance is in 2020. Read our statement.
We’re Training the Next Generation of Leaders
Last week, our 2019-2020 Team ENOUGH and March for our Lives DC Lobbying Collective held their first lobbying day! The team of youth lobbyists, made up of 30 high school and college students, met with 25 congressional offices — both Republican and Democrat — about signing onto an assault weapons ban, supporting federal extreme risk laws, and more! We know that young people have the power to change the minds and hearts of elected officials. We’re proud to train our next generation of leaders. Join a Team ENOUGH chapter!
“There are a lot of moments serving in Congress that are humbling, but one has been getting the chance to talk with leaders from March For Our Lives and Team ENOUGH about the fight to end gun violence. It was great to learn from them this week and work with them to make change.” — Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ)

Schrier (D-WA), and Rep. Turner (R-OH) introduced the Prevent Family Fire Act of 2019, a bipartisan solution to prevent family fire and save lives.

Brady Quote of the Week 🎤
“Serving in combat as a Marine, we were always vigilant against Friendly Fire to protect our brothers and sisters in arms. Similarly, civilian gun owners must do whatever we can to protect against family fire. This is an issue we can all agree on. By providing incentives for retailers to sell more firearm safe storage devices, we can help save lives.”
— Kyleanne Hunter, Brady Vice President of Programs, on the introduction of the Prevent Family Fire Act
