Week of December 6, 2021

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Chapter leadership nominations deadline extended!

The 2022 Local Officer Election nomination period has been extended, and will now end Friday, December 10th at 11:59 PM! The Nominations Committee hasn’t received enough nominations to fill all of the available Steering Committee and Branch Coordinator positions or hold an election, so we want to give more time for interested folks to nominate themselves! You can nominate yourself here: https://forms.gle/GjMJ7FHNYVqB9rEG8.

Currently, all positions with nominees have no opposition, so according to our bylaws, they are automatically elected by acclamation.) We still have 2 Steering Committee seats and 4 Branch Coordinator seats unfilled.

Although the nomination deadline has been extended, we will still have our candidate forum on Monday, December 13th at 7 pm, and you can register for that here: https://dsa-la.org/event/election_forum_221213/! We’ll update our site with the list of candidates and their public statements as soon as all candidates’ membership has been confirmed and their statements are formatted!

---------------

Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we’re working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers. We’re excited to chat with you!

Preregistration for this event is required. After RSVPing, you will receive a confirmation email with the information on how to join this meeting via Zoom prior to its start

Mutual Aid Book Club: Capitalist Realism Part 2

Image

Tuesday, December 7 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Mutual Aid Book Club is taking on the brain worms that are affecting us all with Mark Fisher’s Capitalist Realism. This is the second of two parts, in which we’re reading Chapters Six to Nine of the work, and having reflections on both halves of the issues. Come and try your best to un-learn the boundaries placed on us by the society all around us, to learn to dream again of a brighter tomorrow. Reading the work isn’t required to attend for discussion, but those who need access to the work for free can find it at https://libcom.org/files/[Mark_Fisher]_Capitalist_Realism_Is_There_no_Alte(BookZZ.org).pdf

Please RSVP to this event to get connection information.

The Mutual Aid Book Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

The core of DSA-LA’s labor work is our Labor Circles program. If you are interested in joining a Labor Circle or forming a new Circle, you can begin by filling out the Socialist Workplace Survey. The survey will help us map where we are in LA’s economy and identify where we have workplace, industry and union membership densities to organize around.
