Democrats control the House because of people like my friend Abigail Spanberger.
In 2018, she was a working mom and first-time candidate who shocked the political world by flipping Virginia's 7th District, which had long been thought to be a GOP stronghold. Upon taking office, she quickly established herself as a strong advocate for healthcare, education, national security, and upholding our democracy. Her record allowed her to win again in 2020 against a fierce challenge.
In both her elections, she won by fewer than 10,000 votes. But the political environment Democrats face is a lot tougher now and Abigail needs all the support she can get ahead of 2022 -- especially against her new extreme opponent, Amanda Chase.
So I'm asking: will you split a donation of $10 or more between our re-election campaigns? Holding our seats will go a long way toward protecting our House majority.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Amanda Chase, who entered the race for VA-7 a couple of weeks ago, has a long history of unhinged and extreme statements and behavior. Here are just a few examples:
- She openly carried a gun on the floor of the Virginia State Senate
- She said that a gubernatorial candidate could not “be a governor that supports everyone” because she has a leadership role in Virginia's Black legislative caucus
- Right after the 2020 election, she said that Donald Trump should declare martial law and forcefully overturn the results
- She attended the January 6 "Stop the Steal" rally, and then praised those who attacked the Capitol that day as "patriots"
Amanda Chase is grossly unfit to serve in public office. But she is a Trump-aligned candidate running in a Trump-dominated Republican party. And the fact of the matter is that Abigail's district is almost certain to end up as a close race between the two parties.
If we want to stop a supporter of the insurrection from being elected, we need to get to work today in helping Abigail build the campaign she needs to win this election.
Please chip in what you can. The stakes couldn't be higher!
I hope to continue to have Abigail as a colleague for years to come.
