Hi John,

Did you know? California has an unparalleled diversity of nature: From lush marine kelp beds to arid expanses of wilderness where bighorn sheep and desert tortoises roam; from glacial peaks to old-growth forests of towering redwoods—and one of its most magnificent inhabitants, the mountain lion.

Unfortunately, 30% of species are at risk for extinction. Urban growth, highways and other development cut through natural landscapes, breaking apart wildlife's habitat and blocking the pathways of movement they need to survive. In certain areas, mountain lions have a greater than 99% chance of vanishing in the next 50 years because roads obstruct them from finding mates.

Wildlands Network leads a collaborative to address the barriers to wildlife movement along U.S. Highway 395, a major road imperiling wildlife along the California-Nevada border. Using on-the-ground research methods like motion-sensitive wildlife cameras, we can identify hotspots and effectively advocate for new wildlife over- and underpasses.

Safeguarding wildlife's natural movement is the heart of what Wildlands Network does. If we can protect and reconnect habitat for mountain lions in California, we can make it happen for other wildlife all across North America. There’s no time to waste—give TODAY ([link removed]) to ensure wildlife will be able to thrive continent-wide for generations to come!
