Team — Yesterday I filed a bill to end tolling on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge once and for all.
The TNB was financed in a way that nearly every legislator admits was wrong — putting all of the burden of construction, maintenance, operation, and interest payments on the backs of the working people who drive across the Narrows. Sure, we should all pay for community infrastructure. But we shouldn't have to pay for all of it. I hear from students at Tacoma Community College and UWT, folks who commute across the bridge for work (including soldiers, airmen, and civilians who work at Joint Base Lewis-McChord), neighbors who travel to visit family or care for loved ones — they've have had enough.
Other projects around the state receive investments from the state. It's time for our community to get the state investments we deserve. While other legislators have tried to fix the problem, the solutions have been too small: keeping tolls from rising much higher but paying them for longer. We can do better for our neighbors.
I'm proud to serve on the Senate Transportation Committee and to fight for infrastructure investments across the state — in our roads and bridges, ferries and sidewalks. But I can't keep fighting if I lose my re-election.
Help me keep fighting for all of us. Invest in my campaign before the "legislative freeze" begins at 12:00am on Dec. 11th. Proud to be fighting with you,
