News from Representative Allred

December 7, 2021

Dear John,

As the father of two young kids, I know how challenging it can be to balance working and raising a family in North Texas. From finding affordable childcare, to taking time off work to spend with a new baby, or a sick child, middle class families have to make tough decisions every day. Last month, I helped pass the Build Back Better Act, long overdue legislation to deliver real relief for folks and lower the cost of raising children in North Texas. It now awaits Senate action before becoming law. The best part is, the Build Back Better Act will lower taxes for middle class folks and will lower your bills for health care, child care, prescription drugs and pre-school.

Please take a moment to answer my survey question. Then keep reading to learn more about what’s in the Build Back Better Act for families.

Should we expand free Pre-K to include all three and four year olds?

By participating in the survey, you agree to receive periodic communications from Rep. Allred.

Here are some ways the Build Back Better Act will help North Texas families:
  • Extends the increased Child Tax Credit, with most families receiving monthly payments of $300 per child under 6 or $250 per child ages 6 to 17. This will continue the largest reduction in child poverty in history.
  • Provides every American access to up to 4 weeks of paid family leave.
  • Ensures middle-class families pay no more than 7 percent of their income on child care.
  • Creates universal pre-K by expanding access to free, high-quality preschool to more than 580,000 3 and 4-year-olds in Texas per year.
I was raised by a single mother, and I know that any one of these provisions would have been life-changing for our family while I was growing up. I am excited to see this transformative legislation at work in North Texas and I urge the Senate to work quickly to pass it along to the President’s desk.

I value your feedback and thank you for taking my survey. It is an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
