The Supreme Court’s Vision of Equality Likely Means the End of Abortion Rights—But It Could Mean Much More [[link removed]]
BY MARY ZIEGLER | During last week’s oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson , many Supreme Court justices said nothing about equality at all—but Justice Amy Coney Barrett stood out. She suggested that people relied on abortion “as a backup form of birth control in case contraception fails” because they wanted to avoid the burdens of both pregnancy and parenting.
If the Court is ready to put an end to Roe , the conservative majority might also try to redefine what the Constitution means when it comes to equality of the sexes.

Unanswered Calls: When Domestic Violence Is Seen as a “Nuisance” [[link removed]]
BY GRETCHEN ARNOLD | Nuisance laws fine and evict people when too many 911 calls are made to a specific address. They are often enforced against victims of intimate partner violence who call 911 for protection from their abusers.
This denies women and other victims of domestic abuse one of the most fundamental rights of citizenship—the right to freedom from unwarranted injury at the hands of fellow citizens.
Black Women’s Unemployment Rate Just Dropped. What Happened? [[link removed]]

Typically, unemployment rates change very little from month to month, so the drop among Black women, who have consistently had some of the highest rates of any racial group, is significant. However, since the pandemic began, monthly jobs figures have been more volatile, and clear explanations of what is happening in the labor market have become even more rare.
