We've discovered Amazon's next hostile takeover target: our elections themselves.
Amazon is spending a whopping $1.5 million to try and buy the Seattle City Council in Tuesday's election. It's a huge amount of money compared to what has been spent in the past. And it's happening because Amazon doesn't want to pay more taxes, despite the fact that its CEO Jeff Bezos is the world's richest man.
If they succeed, Bezos and Amazon will start spending big in an election near you — and maybe even in the 2020 presidential election itself. Will you stand up to their brazen attempt to buy our democracy?

At a time when the rich and large corporations are working overtime to buy elections, Amazon stands out for how much it is willing to spend to rig the rules in its favor.
Why is Amazon doing this? In 2018, the Seattle City Council passed a bill to tax large corporations to fund housing and homeless services — made necessary in part by Amazon driving up gentrification and displacement. Amazon used its position as one of the largest employers in Seattle to bully the Council into repealing the bill. Now the company is using its outsized resources yet again to try to overwhelm the voice of ordinary people with its millions.
I live in Seattle and it's honestly scary to see a huge corporation trying to buy our elections like this. Thankfully, national leaders have spoken out against Amazon. Now we need your voice to help put a stop to these tactics before they spread further.
But this isn't just about Seattle. If Amazon succeeds in its hostile takeover here, you can expect them use the same tactics in your city and your state.
