Writer Ed Kilgore explains that Glenn Youngkin’s victory in the Virginia
gubernatorial race in November hinged on base voter turnout not swing
voters!

“Now comes some more granular data from political scientists Seth Hill and
Dan Hopkins via FiveThirtyEight, and it seems to confirm that poor turnout
by Democratic base voters defeated Terry McAuliffe more than ambivalent
swing voters… off-presidential-year falloff for Democrats could well
persist (unless hard-to-turn-out voters, particularly young people, who
lean Democratic, are galvanized by subsequent events.”

We need to be running Democratic candidates who can excite young voters,
Black voters, and women — folks we need to turn up to the polls in
overwhelming numbers. We cannot win running the same corporate Democrats
that have lost these voters time and time again. We need someone whose
lived experience and strong progressive policies will motivate more voters
