FDR’s words are as true today as they were in 1938.

Dear John,

As President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in July 1938, “Let us not be afraid to help each other—let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.”

Government is us. 2021 has proven that we can make government work for us all. Progressive policies are overwhelmingly popular with the public and the historic legislation passed has made a real difference in people’s lives.

But there’s much more to do. Make your year-end gift to the Roosevelt Institute today to join us in continuing the fight for a more equitable America ([link removed] there’s much more to do. With your support, the Roosevelt Institute has been integral to the change we are seeing in our country. Through research, coalition building, and stakeholder engagement, Roosevelt has helped build the intellectual framework for advocates, policymakers, and activists to push one of the most significant expansions of public support in decades. Because of government action, the US economy recovered rapidly from the COVID-19 recession; the US is the only G7 nation to surpass its pre-pandemic GDP level.

We are rebounding remarkably from one of the most dramatic downturns in history, despite inflation and coronavirus variants. This is in part thanks to Roosevelt’s work to prevent the nearly decade-long drag of the Great Recession from happening again. Even in turbulent times, we must celebrate strong markers of a lasting economic recovery: 6.1 million new jobs so far in 2021. The lowest unemployment rate in 50 years. The child tax credit reducing food insecurity by 24 percent, which Treasury Secretary Yellen called “a profound economic and moral victory for the country.”

You can keep the momentum going for policies that help people and boost the economy by supporting the Roosevelt Institute today. ([link removed])

We have much more work to do to shore up this progress and continue to make inroads. There are serious risks ahead. Bad faith actors are determined to divide us and chip away at our progress with racist rhetoric. The threat of a return to a failed neoliberalism is real. But we know you’ll be with us in this fight into 2022 and beyond.

Please join us in this effort by making your gift today ([link removed]) .
Thank you for all that you do and for standing by us in this work.

Wishing you and yours all the best in these perilous times,

Felicia J. Wong
President and CEO
