Today we honor all who lost their lives 80 years ago in an event that would change the world forever, launching the U.S. into World War II. We also honor those who continue to serve our great nation and our veterans who have fought in subsequent wars.
Captain Jerry Coffee, a prisoner of war and decorated war hero, was a loyal Hawai'i Republican. He died on November 13th, 2021, at his home in Virginia close to family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held honoring Jerry in Hawaii at his home church, First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu on Sunday, December 12, at 2 PM at Ko’olau Ballroom. This service will also be live-streamed. Please click HERE for more details.
Captain Coffee's incredible survival story is nothing short of inspiring. He was imprisoned for 7 years in Vietnam and then went on to spend the remainder of his life serving our nation in many capacities and sharing his incredible story of love for God and country.
Today, as we reflect on the many precious lives lost for our freedoms, may we all be reminded about how our Country pulled together in unity during such tragic times.
Through whatever obstacles we may face in Hawai'i and as a nation, I pray that in the memory of Pearl Harbor and in honor of sacrifices made by patriots like Captain Coffee, that we can come together in the spirit of unity and aloha.
