This week at CBPP, we focused on health, federal tax, food assistance, and the economy.

On health, Judith Solomon testified to the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Health Care on Medicaid program integrity. Inna Rubin outlined five good reasons to visit HealthCare.gov during open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act marketplaces. Jesse Cross-Call noted that the children’s uninsured rate rose for the second straight year in 2018. We created a checklist for consumers working with individual and web-based brokers to enroll in health coverage. Tara Straw urged consumers to use caution when shopping for health insurance outside of HealthCare.gov.
On federal tax, Samantha Washington noted that the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit lifted 10.6 million people out of poverty in 2018. Samantha Jacoby explained how opportunity zones exemplify the 2017 tax law’s fundamental flaws.
