This week, President Biden is convening an international summit on democracy. But it is difficult to imagine how we as a country can be a beacon for democracy around the world when our own democracy faces such imminent and drastic threats. If the President wants to provide that beacon of hope to the world, he must do more to press for the essential legislation here at home that would protect our democracy.
Please join us in telling President Biden that his commitment to voting rights is an empty one if the protections in the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act aren’t passed into law. It’s vital that he uses the power of his office without delay to urge the Senate to pass both these bills before the end of the year.

President Biden has spoken forcefully on the need for greater federal protections for voting rights –but he needs to press for reforming the Senate and removing the only remaining barrier to their passage: the filibuster. We won’t let our country be dragged back into the era of Jim Crow voter suppression laws. The Senate should not continue “business as usual” when our democracy is on the line. We must reform the Senate to pass these essential bills.
