** Funding For Colorado Proud
------------------------------------------------------------

It is with great pride that my colleagues and I have been able to forward the Colorado Proud act that appropriates $2.5 million in funding from the general fund to the department of agriculture.

The bill will allow for increased market opportunities for food and agricultural producers that is vital to accelerating the economic recovery of our agricultural and rural communities.

This will allow Colorado's food and agricultural producers with support and assistance is essential in order for the producers to build on current sales channels and create new market opportunities.

The department of agriculture's Colorado proud program, promotes food and agricultural products that are grown, raised, or processed in Colorado, it is ideally positioned to assist food and agricultural producers through a broad portfolio of business development, state branding, and export promotional activities.

Look for the Colorado Proud logo at grocery stores, farmers' markets, garden centers and restaurants. By buying locally grown, raised and processed food and agricultural products, you are receiving high-quality fresh products and helping Colorado's economy, local farmers, ranchers, greenhouses, manufacturers and processors in your area.

#OnTheTrailWithValdez

Story by Shannon Powers
Donald Valdez, Colorado Representative and San Luis Valley native, sipped his coffee as the sun rose over Conejos County on a brisk Saturday morning. Valdez jumped in his pickup and began a route down country roads to greet family, friends, constituents, and of course the sheep. Valdez, who is a fifth-generation farmer, visited the dedicated hard workers of Expo LLC, a potato distributor located in Alamosa. Expo is responsible for packaging and processing roughly 800 to 1,000 bags of potatoes a day – all of which are shipped across the United States and Mexico. With three hundred days of sunshine and a perfect atmosphere, the San Luis Valley is a “potato paradise.” With such ideal conditions, the San Luis Valley has become the second-largest potato growing region in the United States. Valdez had the opportunity to watch and listen as staff discussed everyday operations. One gentleman, who had been with Expo LLC for over thirty years, discussed how having an encouraging and motivated leader
can foster a positive work environment. Donald walked the perimeter of Expo to ensure that he had shaken the hands of all staff who work tirelessly to ensure that America (and Mexico) have food on their shelves. One gentleman, who had brought a handful of home-cooked burritos, asked Valdez, “Have you tried my famous burritos?” Valdez replied, “Not yet.” The gentleman proceeded to take out his burritos and exclaimed, “Okay, they are $2 each.” Valdez broke out into laughter and stated, “I’ll take three!” The burritos were stuffed with green chile, sausage, and of course an SLV potato. Donald Valdez is currently campaigning to unseat Lauren Boebert in Colorado’s 3^rd Congressional District.
