City Action Power Hour Phone-Bank Parties
Read on for two Power Hour calls to action!
CITY ACTION POWER HOUR: Stop Taxing Solar in NY State
Next year Con Edison wants to apply a Customer Benefit Contribution (CBC) charge of $7.00 -10.00 USD per month to the bills of those who receive power from solar energy. This charge would unfairly target solar energy and stunt its growth in New York, undermining our sustainability goals. Come to Monday’s Power Hour to call Governor Hochul and Commissioner Christian with us.
TO ACT NOW: You can also use this handy contact form to reach Governor Hochul, or call (518) 474-8390, press 3, then 1. Contact Commissioner Christian at 1 (800) 342-3377, then press 2.
CITY ACTION POWER HOUR: All Hands on Deck to Pass Gas Free NYC!
We're organizing a Power Hour call-in directed at Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Councilmember Justin Brannan regarding Intro 2317. This measure would ban gas hookups in new buildings as well as major renovations. These are essential steps toward moving New York off fossil fuels. Industry opponents are seeking to delay, weaken, or block this bill altogether. We need to send a message. The council must pass the strongest possible bill NOW. Stay tuned for possible rallies! Call Council Speaker Corey Johnson at 1 (888) 431-7599 and Councilmember Brannan at (212) 788-7363. Demand passage of #GasFreeNYC NOW.
Spread The Word! Foam-Free New York State is Coming!
NYS's long awaited ban on polystyrene foam (aka "styrofoam") will go into effect on January 1st, 2022. Help us prepare for a foam-free New York by spreading the word about these positive changes. Use these posts from Beyond Plastics on Twitter and Facebook to share the good news via social media. Please also send this nifty informational handout to your friends, family, and any local businesses you know that will be affected by this ban. Help make this happen!
See Our Tree Puppets at Hootenanny
428 15th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215
Stop by Hootenanny Art House to see the tree puppets fabricated by members of 350Brooklyn, Extinction Rebellion, and Sunrise Kids under the guidance of puppeteer Theresa Linnehan. They're flourishing in the rays from the beautiful sun puppet made by members of Park Slope Parents. A huge thank you to Hootenanny for looking after them and giving them some prime window space so we can all enjoy them!
Climate Wednesdays: Catch Our Fall 2021 Content Online
350Brooklyn's Fall 2021 collaboration with Brooklyn Public Library and Solar One finished its season on December 1st, but you can still catch the Climate Wednesdays content on our website. NEWS FROM OUR FRIENDS
Call on Governor Hochul to Stop LNG Vaporizers
Join SANE Energy and The University Network for Human Rights in the fight against National Grid’s plan to install polluting Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Vaporizers in Greenpoint. This measure would utilize dangerous and illegal trucking routes in and adjacent to Potential Environmental Justice Areas (PEJAs). Call Governor Kathy Hochul and tell her to comply with the CLCPA by denying National Grid’s permit for new fracked gas vaporizers in Brooklyn and to prevent these hazardous trucks from passing through our neighborhoods! Please take two minutes to call (and/or tweet!) now, or any day of the week: 1 (877) 235-6537.
Friday, December 10th, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm EST: Setting a Climate Justice Agenda for CUNY
CUNY students, faculty and staff: Be part of this initiative to set a CUNY-wide but campus-specific agenda for sustainable infrastructure, environmental education, workforce development, community collaboration, and the divestment of fossil fuel holdings from CUNY funds. Help kick-start a wave of spring-semester climate activism on campus. Register here to attend the CUNY Climate Justice meeting on zoom.
