Here are the key things happening this week.

Indivisibles,

Can you believe we have less than a month until 2022? Even though the year is almost over, there is still so much work to be done in the fight for reconciliation and democracy reform. First of all, let’s talk about reconciliation. As we are sure you remember, the House of Representatives stuck to their promises, and passed Biden’s full Build Back Better agenda (BBB). Now the bill has made its way to the Senate, where we have to work to urgently push senators to pass BBB as soon as possible. Biden’s full Build Back Better Agenda will make badly needed public investments across the economy, so we need to keep pushing for a vote to get past the last few hurdles (including pushback from our usuals: Sens. Manchin and Sinema).

Now for democracy: There was a failed procedural vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act on November 3. Senator Schumer has sent out another “Dear Colleague” letter to his fellow senators. In this letter, Schumer states that even if he cannot get enough GOP support behind the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Advancement Act, Senate Democrats are not going to stop fighting to “restore our democracy” -- even if they have to go at it alone. Indivisibles who live in Republican states have gotten together to write Senator Schumer and other Senate Democrats a letter of their own -- reminding them how important it is to our democracy that the Freedom to Vote Act and then John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act are passed. It’s on us to keep pushing for Democrats to fix the filibuster and pass this massively popular bill.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your weekly to-dos

  1. Call your senator and demand they pass BBB as quickly as possible! The House just passed the Build Back Better Act (BBB) and now it is in the Senate. Now it is time for the Senate to do its job and pass BBB this week. With just a few days left before recess, it is urgent that you call your senator and tell them how important it is that we pass an inclusive recovery bill that works for everyone ASAP.
  2. Call your Senator and demand they fix the filibuster and move quickly to pass the Freedom to Vote Act. Senate Democrats have released a new version of their democracy reform bill called the Freedom to Vote Act. Senator Schumer along with other Democratic Senators have agreed to move forward with democracy reform, even without Republican support for the bill. Call your Senators and let them know you stand with Sen. Schumer, and you want them to adjust the filibuster now to pass the Freedom to Vote Act before they leave town for the holidays.
  3. If you live in a Blue state, call your senator before their Tuesday caucus meeting to support voting rights. Senate Democrats meet every Tuesday for a weekly caucus luncheon, where they discuss and set their legislative priorities. It’s imperative that they hear from us about the need for structural democracy reform legislation before they go into these important meetings. Call your Senators on Tuesday before lunch and let them know you want them to fix the filibuster and fix democracy.
  4. Call your Senator and tell them to protect Roe vs. Wade now. The House has passed the Women's Health Protection Act, a bill aimed at preserving access to an abortion nationwide, as Republican-led state legislatures pass countless bills across the country threatening abortion rights. The bill now has to pass a vote in the Senate, which is why it is urgent that you call your Senator and demand they protect reproductive rights.

P.S. -- We’re able to fund the ads, call scripts, tools and work of huge weeks like last week because of the generous support of grassroots donors, particularly recurring donors whose support we can count on every month.
