Good Saturday morning! It’s not often conservatives have so many wins in one week, but the grassroots were active and effective in holding Congress accountable on many fronts.

But before we jump into the list of victories, be sure to check out the latest from Tim Chapman on how President Trump is implementing effective immigration policies to reduce the strain of illegal immigrants on government welfare programs.

Relief from Obamacare

This week, the Senate voted on S.J. Res. 52, which would have overturned the Trump Administration’s State Innovation Waivers that give states relief from certain burdensome Obamacare regulations.

In 2019, 6 of the 7 states that obtained these waivers saw a decrease in premium costs for their benchmark plans. Ensuring these waivers stay in place is important for conservatives and anyone else who favors lower healthcare costs.

Opposing Funding for Abortion Providers

The Senate was set to vote on Thursday for H.R. 2740, an appropriations bill containing the problematic Shaheen amendment.

If passed, it would have increased funding for pro-abortion organizations, such as the U.N. Population Fund, which supports China’s authoritarian policies of forced abortions and sterilizations. Furthermore, adding this poison pill amendment to the funding bill was a clear violation of the budget agreement reached between Republicans and Democrats in August.

On Wednesday morning we sent out an email asking you to call your senators in opposition to the Shaheen amendment. You called and your voice was heard! Thank you!

Before Thursday’s vote on H.R. 2740, Senate Leader McConnell removed the portion of the bill that contained the Shaheen Amendment. This gives the Senate time to remove the Shaheen amendment and then hold a vote. This was a win for conservatives and a win for the grassroots!

This isn't a total victory—we still need to make sure the appropriations package passes through the House and Senate without the Shaheen amendment or any one of several other poison pill provisions.

Relations with Turkey

The Constitution names the President as “Commander in Chief” and gives the President the powers to conduct international diplomacy. As President Trump continues his negotiations with the Turkish government, it is important his efforts and progress are not undermined by partisans in Congress.

Heritage Action scored another victory this week by securing key changes to the House’s bill imposing sanctions on Turkey. These changes give President Trump more power and discretion in the implementation of any sanctions.

Pelosi’s Sham Impeachment Exposed

For weeks, we’ve been shining a light on how big of a sham this impeachment inquiry has been.

It began without a vote. It’s been conducted largely in secret, away from the American people. And the minority party has been denied their right to fully participate.

On Halloween, Speaker Pelosi gave in to public pressure. No longer able to protect vulnerable Democrats from having to go on record, Pelosi held a vote. Now we know where our representatives stand, and that’s a victory.

But the vote is too little, too late. For weeks, the blatant partisanship of Pelosi, Schiff and others has been on full display. Holding a vote doesn’t change that.

After the vote, Executive Director Tim Chapman commented:

From the moment President Trump took the oath of office, Democrats have been determined to impeach him. Today’s vote was simply the latest move in this highly partisan proceeding. The entire impeachment process has been purely motivated by politics, with little grounding in evidence, fairness, or due process.

Next week, the House is in recess, but when they come back, they will likely vote on H.R. 3, a government takeover of prescription drug prices.

House Democrats have already accepted the fact that under their drug pricing plan, it will lead to less pharmaceutical research, which means fewer life-saving medications in the future. Click here to take action and stop H.R. 3.
