Dear John,
Yesterday the new National Leader Christopher Luxon announced the new National caucus line-up and Shadow Cabinet. I am really pleased to have been ranked at number 4 in the line-up and to retain the COVID-19 Response portfolio. I also have the privilege of becoming Shadow Leader of the House again, which means I will help lead the fight against the government in the House.
It's hard to believe it's only been a week since Christopher was elected Leader and Nicola Willis was elected the Deputy Leader of the National Party. What a week it has been! Simon Bridges was appointed National's Finance and Infrastructure spokesperson, Christopher visited hard-hit Auckland hospitality businesses on Friday, and on Sunday he appeared on Q and A. Right around the country the reaction has been incredible, including in Lower Hutt, where I have been inundated with positive comments in the street, when grabbing a coffee, and just out walking Ladyhawke. Thank you to everyone who has passed on their thoughts - it is really appreciated.
For the first time in a while, there is a palpable and evident enthusiasm once again for the National Party. It's a very exciting way to end the year. There are thousands and thousands of people out there who are desperate for National to succeed. The clear message from Christopher and Nicola's ascension to the leadership is: National is back! If you want to be part of the journey, then please flick me an email - there's plenty of things to help out with!
This week's Bulletin is just a quick update really - I'll do another one before Christmas to round the year off. A quick reminder about the government's "Three Waters" reform - don't forget to fill out my survey on the issue. It only takes a couple of minutes and will allow Hutt residents to have their say on this very controversial proposal.
Finally, in December I will be distributing my annual community newsletter around the Hutt and I'm looking for volunteers to help me deliver it! If you could spare an hour or two, please fill out this form and one of my team will be in touch. We drop off the letters to you (or you can pick them up), you just walk the streets and pop them into letterboxes. We still need a few more volunteers, so please sign-up!
Enjoy the rest of the week.
Chris

Last week my best mate in politics Nicola Willis was elected Deputy Leader of National. I am so proud of her. Nicola is one of the smartest people I have ever met. I’ve known her since university days and in some ways our political careers have grown together. She’s always been there for me and I will always be there for her. I enjoyed this profile of her in the Dom on the weekend.

Turns out you can skip MIQ and self isolate when travelling back to NZ from overseas… but you have to be a government Minister. When I got the written question answer to this, which is the basis of the story, I actually couldn’t believe it. The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

A quick shout out to awesome local caterers ESSC Eats. I recently held a cocktail function and they did the catering - the food was absolutely delicious and I've had so many compliments about it. Little cheeseburger sliders, prawn toast, chicken satay, and karaage chicken - YUM! Mark and Rebecca and team are all locals - so if you're looking for a option for your next event, can't recommend them highly enough.

Incredible effort by Ajaz Patel to take all 10 wickets in the first innings of the second test against India. Shame about the rest of the match....
