Win a trip to The Hague - Deadline Extended - Past winner helps end death penalty in Malawi
Imprisoned at age 16, Mtilosera Pindani (center, with his parents) was released from Malawi’s death row after 22 years, thanks to the efforts of previous World Justice Challenge winner Malawi Sentencing Project.
Dear Colleague,
Do you know a high-impact justice or anti-corruption project that deserves a $20,000 USD prize and global recognition?
Please help spread the word: we’ve extended the deadline to December 14, 2021, for submissions to World Justice Challenge 2022: Building More Just Communities ([link removed]) !
30 finalists will be invited to The Hague to showcase their work at the World Justice Forum 2022 ([link removed]) (May 30-June 2).
The World Justice Project will award five Challenge winners $20,000 USD each to expand their impact advancing the rule of law.
That’s what 2019 Challenge winner Malawi Resentencing Project did. The Project has won freedom for more than 145 prisoners improperly sentenced to death - and helped drive a national campaign to end capital punishment in Malawi.
This past April, those efforts culminated in a historic decision by the Malawi Supreme Court to abolish the death penalty. The Project used the World Justice Challenge prize ([link removed]) to expand its efforts to Tanzania and Kenya, and sees the Malawi ruling as setting the stage for abolition across the region.
