In the next few weeks, the fate of an incredibly important piece of legislation – one with huge impacts on the future of the Post Office – will be decided. Let us explain.

Dear Friend,

In the next few weeks, the fate of an incredibly important piece of legislation – one with huge impacts on the future of the Post Office – will be decided.

In 2006, Congress passed an unfair mandate, requiring the Postal Service to prefund retiree health benefits 75 years in advance, making it appear as though the Post Office runs at an enormous loss every year.

Simply put, the prefunding mandate makes our jobs harder, and makes winning the strong wages and benefits we deserve at the bargaining table even more difficult.

Here's the good news.

This bill has already passed House Oversight committee with strong bipartisan support.

But, there’s a problem.

Right now, the bill is awaiting action by a congressional committee chaired by Congressman Richard Neal.

With congressional elections coming in 2022, and congress about to go into recess for the holidays, our best chance to pass this critical legislation is right now.

Here’s the important part, Friend.

We need you to tell Congressman Neal that you support the Postal Service Reform Act, and urge him to move it onto the House floor for a vote before Congress goes home.

This bill is critical for protecting our jobs and the future of the Post Office. As postal workers, we have worked tirelessly to serve our communities through some of the toughest challenges this country has ever seen.

Now, it’s time for congress to do their job, and deliver the funds and reforms we need to keep serving the American people.

Tell Congressman Neal – now’s the time for a vote on the Postal Service Reform Act.

Thank you for being with us in this fight.

In solidarity,

The American Postal Workers Union
