Hi John, COVID-19 has taken 5 million lives worldwide – but that’s not the only horror that emerged with the pandemic. 10 million more girls are at risk of becoming child brides. In 2020, 3.7 million more children missed out on life-saving immunizations than in 2019. And famine is threatening to push 130 million more people to the brink of starvation – including children like 6-year-old Mohamed, pictured above. He spends a lot of time at the clinic in Somalia where his little brother, Abdirahman, is being treated for severe malnutrition. Conflict and drought have fueled the food insecurity crisis there for years – but since the pandemic hit, countless more kids are going hungry. John, children like Mohamed and Abdirahman are enduring disaster after disaster with little support. Please urge the Biden Administration to increase investments in poverty-focused development and humanitarian assistance. At less than 1% of the entire federal budget, there is room for the U.S. to do much more. Our country has made a commitment to help tackle world hunger, end preventable child and maternal deaths, empower girls and ensure that all children have access to a quality education by 2030. U.S. foreign assistance helps countries around the world ensure their children survive and thrive, but current levels of funding won’t be nearly enough to keep pace with the drastic increase in need brought on by the pandemic. The U.S. can and should do more to ensure children around the work have access to basic health services, are nourished, go to school, and are protected from violence. Dedicating additional resources to foreign aid won’t just help kids today – it’ll be an investment in a brighter global future. Call on President Biden to increase foreign aid funding in 2022 and lead the world in building a better tomorrow for children! Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
