Climate Justice

This month’s Climate Justice newsletter is all about forms of solidarity that generate sustained, material change as we collectively face climate crises. In our first piece, NPQ’s editor in chief Cyndi Suarez interviews an environmental leader from Puerto Rico to discuss how the island’s climate network moves beyond symbolic calls for action that take place solely “within four walls.” Another article takes an expansive look at climate and energy challenges across the globe and why we must adopt an “integrated,” solidarity-driven approach to climate justice. We then examine how fossil fuel divestment pledges have become mainstream, and yet how capital shifts are simply not enough without broader policy, economic, and cultural changes. Informed by Indigenous economic frameworks that center community health and abundance, our last offering puts forth a vision of a regenerative economy that enacts solidarity across plants, animals, fish, and humans through cooperative labor practices and cultures of care for sacred relationships.
