Here’s why this action is so important:
Our country is facing an existential crisis. Just this year, 19 states have passed 33 laws restricting voting rights, with more likely to come. At the same time, state lawmakers across the country are currently gerrymandering their legislative maps to choose which voters they represent, instead of the other way around.
That’s why it’s imperative that the Senate urgently pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which will stop partisan gerrymandering, restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act gutted by the Supreme Court, and ensure voters are protected from future attacks on their freedom to vote.
But friend, the Senate is set to go on recess on December 13. We don’t have much time left.
We must take action now to protect voting rights: Join us in-person or virtually during our “Recess Can Wait, Our Democracy Can’t” Week of Action to demand that the Senate pass the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act!
Our first action of the week is an in-person demonstration in Washington, DC on Tuesday, December 7th. We’re setting up blockades at intersections around the Capitol Building to shut down the business as usual and demand that Congress follow through with their promises to pass voting rights legislation. Join our rally!
