Republicans and conservative supreme court justices want to take us back to a time before women had bodily autonomy.
The Dobbs v. Jackson case marks the most significant challenge to abortion rights and to Roe v. Wade in decades. The Supreme Court’s conservative majority is poised to uphold Mississippi’s ultra-restrictive abortion law, which prohibits abortion after just 15 weeks of pregnancy. This attack on women's reproductive health was made possible by justices who were pushed through by a president who is a serial sexual harasser.
This dangerous legislation reflects a profound disparity in our government: lawmakers who fail to support universal healthcare, paid family leave, comprehensive sex education, and universal childcare are inflicting the physical and financial trauma of forced pregnancy and birth on thousands of women - specifically the working class and people of color, communities already too marginalized by the healthcare system.
We know that repealing Roe v. Wade won't decrease the number of abortions, it will only increase the number of unsafe abortions. New York has some of the most robust reproductive rights in the nation, but what’s more is that our state has a history of serving as a safe harbor for women seeking abortion access. As New Yorkers, we must be dedicated to supporting women in Mississippi and in all states threatened by this legislature.
Supporting progressive candidates is one of the ways we can act to protect reproductive rights in New York and nationally. This is the most conservative court we have seen in some time, with a solid six-member conservative wing. We need elected officials with a bold, progressive vision.
While my opponent has the support of corporate special interests and billionaires, I’m not taking money from corporate PACs, real estate developers, or special interests.
This campaign is from, by, and for the PEOPLE of Queens and New York State and we’re relying on you to start off strong!
Let’s do this!
