Nearly 30 years ago, I was on a multi-day bike trip that began in Skowhegan. As I rode through the Upper Kennebec Valley with the river glimmering in the sun and the expansive views of mountain peaks along the horizon, I fell in love with Maine.

Shortly thereafter I moved to a little town in the hills of Western Maine. Life today – keeping bees and categorizing species for my local land trust - is quite a departure from the rapid pace of the life I knew in Maryland. This is exactly where I want to be. And, I know exactly how important it is to protect what is so special about Maine.

Over the last year, MCV and their allies made remarkable progress implementing Maine’s Climate Action Plan to reduce carbon pollution by 80% and use 100% renewable energy—all by 2050. They also safeguarded Maine people and the environment from toxic chemicals, protected land for future generations, and made voting in this state one of the most accessible and secure in the nation.

We cannot jeopardize this forward momentum in the year ahead. We know that the earth has been pushed to the brink by climate change and pollution threatens our clean air, water, and health.
