Ask Congress to Make USDA Do Its Job!
Dear John,
For too long, the US Department of Agriculture has failed the animals Congress intended to protect under the Animal Welfare Act.
Due to loopholes and lackluster enforcement, a system for licensing breeders, dealers, and exhibitors of animals has not prevented egregious animal abuses by puppy mills, roadside zoos, circuses, and others--which AWI has repeatedly documented. And it is only thanks to annual instructions from Congress that certain dealers are no longer able to supply dogs and cats to laboratories.
What You Can Do
Please ask your US representative to cosponsor two bills--the Pet Safety and Protection Act and the Animal Welfare Enforcement Improvement Act--that would force the USDA to do the job that it should.
Thank you in advance for your help and for all you do for animals!
Sincerely,
Cathy Liss President
