This is a longer note from Paul about his family’s experience with Type-1 Diabetes and the struggles that far too many Americans face within our health care system. If you’re able, we would appreciate it if you chip in a few dollars today to help Paul fight for affordable and accessible health care in Congress.
Hi John,
National Diabetes Month just came to a close, but today I wanted to call attention to this life-threatening disease that impacts 34 million Americans daily -- including members of my family.
My son Jack was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes when he was just three years old, and we live with those challenges every day.
Just eight months after his diagnosis, I was sent to Afghanistan for a 1-year tour of duty -- leaving my wife Debbie to serve as sole caregiver. Ironically, she was diagnosed years later with the same disease and spent several days in the ICU with life-threatening Diabetic Ketoacidosis.
Fighting for affordable and accessible health care is personal, because I know the fear and financial struggles of having a loved one dealing with a life-threatening illness.
But just the other week, I watched as Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick voted AGAINST legislation that would limit the cost of insulin to $35/month as well as allow Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices so that no one lacks the medicine they need to survive.
The price caps in this bill would be life-changing for families like mine, which is why I’m committed to fighting for every American’s right to high-quality, affordable, and accessible health care in Congress.
