In 2018, the first four members of ‘The Squad’ (Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley) broke barriers as young, progressive women of color to represent their diverse districts in Congress. The Squad grew in 2020 with Rep. Jamaal Bowman and Rep. Cori Bush.
They were elected because of their deep connection to their communities and have advocated for them daily in Congress. But their most recent decision to block Biden’s infrastructure bill to secure the Build Back Better Act has left some of their supporters confused.
