Hi John,

I wanted to send a personal note about what happened this week at the Supreme Court.

The State of Mississippi and the only abortion provider left in Mississippi presented their oral arguments in a case that could effectively overturn Roe v. Wade by making abortions illegal after 15-weeks of pregnancy and opening the door for other states to do the same or worse.

It was a terrible moment to watch conservative justices seemingly side with the State of Mississippi. Fundamental rights to bodily autonomy are in grave danger, and it’s all because of an energized and growing movement of religious extremists.

I know you share my concern about what’s happening in our country.

But we cannot allow ourselves to be despondent, because we’re less than one year out from the 2022 midterm elections. Who we elect can counter aberrant decisions made by the Supreme Court by enacting protections in legislatures around the country.

Take whatever anger, fear, and frustration you rightly feel and stand up for abortion rights by making a gift to the Center for Freethought Equality.

Help us fight religious extremism that is threatening abortion rights. Donate to Center for Freethought Equality, and we’ll immediately put your gift to work, to support and elect humanists, to defend the separation of church and state, and to fight back against an empowered White Christian Nationalists movement. We’re working day and night to support humanist values and policies, and that includes the right for people to access safe abortion care.

Your donation today helps counter the religious right’s assault on abortion rights by:
- Working to support and elect leaders in government who will champion humanist and secular values;
- Standing up against the misuse of religion to restrict the rights of women, LGBTQ+ people, religious minorities, and the nonreligious;
- Tracking new threats to abortion and other essential rights, mobilizing people to speak up, and holding Members of Congress accountable for their actions;
- Influencing policy and legislation through high-level lobbying with key decision-makers;

There are reasons to hope. Some of our endorsed humanist and agnostic candidates won their races during the elections this past November. Those wins included Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, who won a seat on the San Antonio (Texas) City Council, Audra Killingsworth, who won re-election to the Apex (North Carolina) Town Council, and Andrew Zwicker, who flipped a red New Jersey State Senate seat (District 16).

Securing abortion rights for all requires that we build on this progress. Make your gift today and help us do just that. [[link removed]]

As always, I’m so grateful for your support. We need it now more than ever.

Rachel Deitch
Director of Policy and Social Justice
