Dear John
I’ve got the most incredible news – we just won a ban on fracking. And it’s because of people like you.
Today’s announcement of a moratorium in England means that no new fracking can take place anywhere in the country. The industry is effectively over in the UK.
This is the moment we’ve been campaigning towards for over 8 years.
It’s a victory for you. It’s a victory for the communities across the country in places like Lancashire and Yorkshire who kept on campaigning in the face of fracking rigs, legal threats and earthquakes. And it shows just how powerful we can be when we campaign together to protect the climate.
Back in 2011 we decided to campaign against the emerging fracking industry, because the last thing the UK needed was a new source of fossil fuels to burn.
I got involved a couple of years later and had the privilege of spending loads of my time supporting the incredible local campaigners up in Lancashire. Knowing how much this will mean to them makes this moment even more special. Because it’s the dedication of people like the anti-fracking nanas – and all the Friends of the Earth supporters who’ve taken action and given money to oppose fracking – that made this moment possible.
Together we stood up to a powerful industry. And today we secured a huge victory in the battle against climate breakdown.
We know that the fight against the fossil fuel industry must continue. But now it’s time to celebrate – make sure you do because this news is huge. And if you want to do more, become a member today if you haven’t already. Your monthly donation will help make more news like this possible as we continue our campaign to stop climate breakdown.
