Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01) hosted a reception to honor the participants and announced the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Stephen F. Austin’s Cole Art Center in downtown Nacogdoches. The competition is held annually nationwide in each Congressional district. He released the following statement regarding the outstanding art pieces submitted this year:
“The great philosopher, Aristotle, once said, ‘the aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.’ Fine art is important to the culture of Texas and creates an outlet for the imagination of students. I enjoyed hosting the art competition and showcasing the abundance of creativity and passion on display from the First Congressional District of Texas.”
2022 Congressional Art Winners:
FIRST PLACE: Kiymiya Lamea, Tyler Legacy High School

First Place winner will hang in the Capitol Tunnel in Washington, D.C. for one year
SECOND PLACE: Phuong Ngoc Nguyen, Chapel Hill High School
"Sleepy"
Second Place winner will hang in the TX-01 Washington, D.C. Office
THIRD PLACE: Raychell Rogers, Winona High School
"After 4pm"
Third Place winner will be displayed in the TX-01 District Office
HONORABLE MENTION: Andrea Lawrence, Lufkin High School
"Ghosts"
HONORABLE MENTION: Sadie Scoggins, Hawkins High School
“A Rescued Life”
The annual competition is open to high school students across the district. The first place winner was awarded a scholarship and has their artwork displayed in the United States Capitol Building for a year, alongside winning art from Congressional Districts across the United States.
