John,
Anti net neutrality Senators are trying to block a critical FCC nominee. We cannot let this happen. Send a quick message to your legislators right now and tell them to confirm Gigi Sohn to the FCC immediately!
TAKE ACTION
Here’s the quick roundup of what’s been going on:
-
The White House nominated two net neutrality champs to fill out the FCC.1
-
The Senate Commerce Committee moved forward the first nominee—Jessica Rosenworcel, and she can now get a full Senate vote. This is good.
-
The second nominee, Gigi Sohn, had a hearing this week in the Senate Commerce Committee where legislators attacked her support of net neutrality. After the hearing, Sens. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) said they would put holds on her nomination—a tactic that would force the Senate to use floor time to discuss her nomination and slow the whole process down.2
This move could delay Sohn’s confirmation, which would further delay the FCC from reinstating net neutrality and working to ensure people across the country have access to affordable and reliable broadband.
This is politics at its worst, and could keep an extremely qualified champion of the open Internet from being appointed to a critical position. We can’t let politics beat out public interest: demand your Senators swiftly confirm both FCC nominees.
The good news is that since the Senate still has so much work, they’re likely to keep working late into December. This means there is still time, but they need to know this is a priority for their constituents—you!
Take a moment to send a quick message to ensure we have a fully functioning FCC and that we can win back net neutrality in 2022.
Together,
Caitlin at Fight for the Future
