Dear Jack,

This week in the European parliament Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage denounced Ursula von der Leyen, the establishment’s nominee as new EU chief, for her plans to create an EU army and a Euro state that will “take control of every aspect of our lives”.

He called on his fellow MEPs to “strike a blow for democracy, strike a blow for your citizens” by refusing to endorse her nomination. Instead, the parliament backed von der Leyen as European Commission President. Almost her first act was to back another delay to Brexit.

So much for democracy in the EU.
