John,

It sounds like a fairy tale, but there’s a place on Earth where tigers,
elephants, and orangutans coexist in the wild. And this week we can buy a
huge piece of their forest home to help protect it...forever.

The Leuser ecosystem of Indonesia has been called one of the most
irreplaceable ecosystems on the planet. But poaching, infrastructure
projects like hydroelectric dams, and mass deforestation fueled by palm
oil plantations are threatening to destroy it.

That’s why our partner Rainforest Trust wants to purchase and protect a
huge chunk of this forest...and give these critically endangered species a
fighting chance to survive. Just months ago we were able to do this in
Colombia, and protect a rare monkey species...let’s do it again!

If 5000 of us chip in the cost of a cup of coffee in the next 24 hours,
Rainforest Trust has a donor offering a 4x match on your donation! They
could secure the land quickly and get started on their work protecting the
forest. Can you help save this irreplaceable piece of our planet?

Our community has done so much work over the years to protect orangutans
from palm oil pillaging, and this could be a huge new step -- actually
helping to buy the land and pay for patrols to stop deforestation and
poaching.

That happens through Rainforest Trust’s local partner, Forum Konservasi
Leuser (FKL). After securing the land, FKL educates local communities in
sustainable resource use, and recruits community members for jobs to
protect the forest. These groups have been working together for 6 years
and this land purchase would double their total protected area.

And John, this area critically needs protection. It isn’t
just wildlife. The Leuser Ecosystem has a crucial role in fighting climate
change, storing massive amounts of carbon (the area we could buy stores
almost 350,000 metric tons!). When these areas are hacked and set on fire
instead of protected, thousands of years of stored carbon are released. In
bad fire years, it’s been estimated as comparable to the fossil fuel
emissions of all of Western Europe!

This is an incredibly rare opportunity. To work with others around the
world to buy a piece of critically endangered ecosystem and know you’ve
helped protect it.

Will you be one of the 5000 donors we need to buy this land in the next 24
hours? Every extra penny we raise will be used to defend wild places like
this from corporations bent on their destruction.
