December 3, 2021

Greetings,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to spend time with family and friends. While I enjoyed the weekend with my loved ones, I am energized to be back in Washington to continue delivering results for Georgia's Thirteenth District and the American people. Here are some important updates from this past month:

Thirteenth Congressional District COVID-19 Update

According to recent reports, the U.S. confirmed the first case of a new COVID-19 variant, Omicron. Although this is concerning, there is no need for panic, as this past year and a half has helped our nation and the world develop the tools and knowledge to keep our communities as safe as possible.

The Georgia Department of Public Health is urging all Georgians to get vaccinated against COVID-19. For more information on how you can sign up for your first or second doses or your booster shot, please click here

Congressman David Scott Votes to Pass Historic Build Back Better Act in House of Representatives

This month, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act, transformative legislation to bring down the every costs that burden Georgia families and those across the country.

The landmark Build Back Better Act delivers for families in Georgia and across the nation once-in-a-generation action to cut middle class taxes, lower the costs of child care, address alarming price hikes at the pharmacy counter, create good paying jobs and ensure America leads the clean energy economy of the future.

I was proud to vote for this landmark legislation, which will make a lasting difference for working and middle class families as our economy rebounds from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fully paid for by asking the wealthiest few and biggest corporations to pay their fair share, the Build Back Better Act includes a historic, bipartisan investment that I championed to establish $100 million in permanent funding for student scholarships at the nineteen 1890 land-grant colleges and universities.

Our 1890 HBCUs are crucial to the future of American agriculture. We cannot let these historic institutions down in our commitment to Build Back Better for the American people. The need for innovation has never been clearer than it is today as the nation’s agriculture industry races to develop new strategies to contend with 21stcentury challenges, including climate change and supply chain resiliency. Bright minds nurtured in 1890 HBCUs can help meet the moment and lead the way. I look forward to the Senate passage of this landmark legislation as soon as possible.

The legislation now heads to the Senate, and I urge swift consideration and passage.

In Local, National Outlets, US. Rep. David Scott Praises Passage of Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal, Touts Immediate Impact of the Bill for the American People

This month, local and national outlets, including the Atlanta Journal Constitution and CNN Newsroom, featured my remarks on the once-in-a-generation bipartisan infrastructure deal passed out of the House of Representatives and signed into law by President Joe Biden.

For too long, Congress has failed to act boldly when it comes to our infrastructure, leaving our country with congested roads, failing sewer systems, lead in our pipes, unsafe bridges, unreliable broadband and slow-moving trains.

Today we begin to #BuildBackBetter for the American people.

What's In The Bipartisan Infrastructure Package?

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill will:

  • Rebuild roads and bridges nationwide, including the largest bridge investment since the construction of the interstate highway system seven decades ago;
  • Deliver clean drinking water to ten million families and more than 400,000 schools and child care facilities nationwide with the largest-ever investment in American water infrastructure to replace lead pipes and service lines across the nation;
  • Help clean up legacy pollution, which is an important step in advancing environmental justice;
  • Expand access to reliable high-speed internet to help more families get online to work and learn;
  • Make historic improvements to public transit, with the largest federal investment in American history and the largest federal investment in passenger rail since the creation of Amtrak; and
  • Support action to address the climate crisis, making down-payments on clean energy transmission, a clean and resilient electric grid, electric vehicle infrastructure and more.

Rep. David Scott Leads 60+ Colleagues in Bipartisan Letter Urging Secretary Walsh to Address Supply Chain Backlog by Prioritizing DOL Worker Grants for Truck Drivers

Last month, I led 60+ colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in a bipartisan  letter urging U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Walsh to address supply chain backlog by prioritizing DOL worker grants for truck drivers.

Right now, we have 15,000 commercial truck driver vacancies that need to be filled right away to get meat, produce and commodities from our agriculture industry to communities across the country. Our nation's supply chain can't wait. We need action now.

Also this month, I joined Joe Madison - "The Black Eagle" and Scott Slade of 95.5 WSB-Radio to to discuss the vital importance of our nation's trucking industry and my push to provide support for aspiring truck drivers that can help ease supply chain bottlenecks. We need to move quickly to close the gap before the holiday season.
