John,
Just hours ago, I was arrested on Capitol Hill.
Today, Women’s March joined Jane Fonda, activists, Indigenous leaders, experts, and community members to sound the alarm and demand action on the climate emergency as part of #FireDrillFriday.
In a moment, I’m going to share the story of how I got here – from a pastry chef who wasn’t politically involved to getting arrested for climate justice with Jane Fonda.
But first – watch this video from the action, then chip in $5 to join in solidarity and support our call for urgent climate action.
Before 2016, I’d gone to D.C. only twice, and only as a tourist – never for anything political. But, after Trump got elected, I knew I had to do something.
That day, I went on Facebook and I saw that women were calling for a march in D.C. I jumped at the opportunity to support them; I spent the next 72 hours glued to my screen, creating event pages in all 50 states and trying to get as many events and people registered from as many parts of the country as possible.
I went on to become a Board Member of Women’s March and, even though I’ve since stepped down, my commitment to activism spurred by Women’s March is now a part of me.
And I’m proud to say that my story is not unique – so many women, femmes, and allies were spurred into action by Women’s March, and have since gone on to leadership roles in local chapters and various social justice groups, or put their bodies on the line for justice like I did today.
Women can't wait for climate justice, and it will take all of us rising up to demand that Congress put people first and finally act.
From impeachment to the climate crisis, we need women everywhere taking bold, direct action. Please chip in $5 now and help us plan more actions, trainings, and resources.
Hope to see you out there,
Breanne Delgado
